CONSTANT FORCE SPRINGS

Constant Force Springs are usually manufactured as a pre-stressed flat strip material, tightly wound around a drum or shaft at the center and the hole at the free end is attached to a loading force, such as a balancing application. As the reel unwinds (deflects), it exerts a near-constant force as the geometry of the coil remains nearly fixed by the drum. The tightly wound coil operates in a linear motion and does not obey Hooke’s law (F=k.x), which allows it to generate force continuously along the deflection.

The constant force spring is an excellent design component for applications where a constant load is required.
